URL shortener questions
Important details about guest links, analytics, retention, and safe sharing.
What is url short for?
A url short (short link) is a small web address that redirects to a longer URL. People use short links to save characters in bios and posts, make long tracking links easier to read, simplify typing on mobile, and measure clicks when analytics are turned on. It is the same idea as shortening links or using a website url shortener.
Is UrlShorter free to use?
Yes. Guest users can create short links, custom aliases, campaign parameters, and QR codes. Guest history is stored in the current browser and retention may be limited under our Terms. The homepage feature table reflects the capabilities available today.
What analytics do you provide?
The current product records click totals and recent visit information. UTM source, medium, and campaign fields can be added at creation time for reporting in your destination analytics tool.
Do my short links expire?
Links do not receive a user-selected expiration date in the current creator. Guest links may be subject to retention limits under our Terms, and links can be disabled for abuse or policy violations.
How secure is the link shortening service?
The site uses HTTPS and validates destinations before creating links. Because no automated control can guarantee that every destination stays safe, each page includes a dedicated abuse-reporting route for phishing, malware, spam, and other harmful links.
Can I use UrlShorter as a private link shortener?
A short link hides visual complexity, but it is not a privacy or access-control tool. Anyone with the short URL can follow it. Do not use it to protect confidential destinations or replace authentication.
What redirect does a short link use?
Normal short links use a direct temporary HTTP 307 redirect. This is accurate for links whose destination or status may change. Your destination—not the short URL—should remain the page you optimize for search.
Can I shorten affiliate or campaign links safely?
Yes, provided the destination and campaign comply with our Terms and the rules of the channel where you share it. UTM parameters can preserve source and medium reporting. Suspicious links can be reported through our dedicated abuse form.
Can I use my own custom domain?
Not currently. UrlShorter supports custom aliases on the urlshorter.cc domain today. Custom-domain support will only be advertised after it is available and documented.
Is UrlShorter a good enterprise URL shortener?
UrlShorter currently focuses on individual guest and account workflows. Team roles, custom domains, and enterprise administration are not currently available.

Why use a URL shortener?
URL shorteners transform long, unwieldy web addresses into compact links that are easier to share, track, and manage. Whether you are posting on TikTok, running email campaigns, or managing links for an enterprise team, a reliable link shortener saves characters, looks professional, and gives you real-time analytics on every click.
UrlShorter goes beyond basic shortening: you get QR code generation, UTM parameter tracking, custom aliases, and optional link expiration. Read the questions above for details on TikTok bio links, enterprise workflows, API integrations, and security practices.
